We learn with pleasure that Lt Herbert Williamson, Ashleigh, Conisborough has been promoted captain of a machine-gun company of the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry.

Letter Williamson was a lieutenant in the territorial forces at the outbreak of war, and he continued into the campaign, going to the front with the local Territorial Brigade in April 1915.

In civil life he was electrical engineer at Denaby and Cadeby under his father, who is engineering in chief of the collieries.

It will be remembered that Capt Williamson was decorated by the King with the Edward medal awarded him on the recommendation of the Home Office for gallantry displayed during the Cadeby disaster.

During his service in France he has enjoyed almost complete immunity from injury receiving only one slight scalpel, which was not sufficiently serious to causes withdrawal from the firing line. He came home on leave from the front last Easter.
