Spare Chairs

It was the end of a highly successful evening, which had included a carol – service attracting eight times the normal congregation at St. Andrew’s Mission, Conisbrough. About 70 people packed the Mission, and spare chairs – out of use for so long – had to be dusted off and used to complement the normal seating arrangements.

During the service, which replaced the normal Evensong, Youth Club members read the lessons while the Sunday School enacted the Christmas Story through a number of tableaux.

The spectacle had been carefully rehearsed beforehand and had an added impact thanks to the work of the Mission Mothers, who had made colourful costumes for the Christmas scenes. The service was conducted by Captain Simpson.

The young people themselves contributed toward the cost of the gifts.
