A Squabble Between Mistress and Servant
At Doncaster West Riding Court, on Saturday, Elizabeth Ellis, domestic servant, was charged with assaulting Mary Martin, wife of the landlord of the Eagle and Child Inn, Conisborough, on the 16: inst., and a boy name Dill Martin was charged with assaulting Elizabeth Ellis on the same day and time.
It was stated that defendant was given Ieave to go out on Wednesday night, and did not return until Friday, having been staying with her sister.
After seeing her father, Mrs Martin agreed to keep on, but sent him money to her father. Defendant came in at night, and bringing her money back threw it at her Mrs.
Mrs Martin ordered out and attempted to put her out, when defendant struck going to strike again. Her son sees arm, and she struck him and he stuck her back.
Several witnesses were called, and the Chairman said the magistrates thought the justice of the case will be met by the summons been dismissed.
