St Helen’s post for Denaby man.

Moving from Yorkshire into Lancashire next week is Mr George Roe, of 86, Cliff View, Denaby Main, who has been appointed glass technologist with Forster’s Glass Company Ltd, of St Helens. He takes up his new post on Monday.

Since 1957 Mr Roe has been on the staff of the Rotherham firm of Messrs Beatson, Clark and Co Ltd, concluding a service with them on September 30.

He is an old student of Mexborough Grammar School, where he gained a West Riding County Exhibition and also a scholarship put up by Beatson Clark and Co Ltd, glass bottle manufacturers.

He took up the scholarship in the Department of Glass Technology at Sheffield University where in 1960 he gained an honours degree in the subject. He has since been Works chemist at Beatson Clark’s.

While at Rotherham. Mr Roe has played table tennis for Beatson Clark’s, has led the staff cricket team, has served on the other works sports club committee as Motor Club secretary.

He is a member of the Mexborough Round Table and has for several years been secretary of Mexborough Grammar School Old Students Association, whose members wish him every success in his new sphere.
