Stack Fire.
At an early hour on Tuesday morning it was discovered that a stack of seeds and hay, the produce of 45 acres, standing on the Conisborough Lodge farm, and belonging to Mr Joe Hague, hay and straw dealer, Rotherham was on fire.
Messages were once despatched to Rotherham for the Corporation and Sun fire engines.
The former, under the command of Mr Luke Berry, the captain, was the first to arrive at the scene of the fire, but it was almost immediately followed by the Sun fire engine and the brigade, who were under the command of Capt W.Nicholson.
Both engines were got to work with the least possible loss of time, but it was not until two o’clock on Tuesday afternoon that the brigades obtained a complete mastery over the fire.
The burnt hay was then cut away, and it was found that about half the stack had been destroyed.
The stack was valued at £300.
The engines reached Rotherham about eight o’clock at night.
