Starting Early

Two young Conisborough pony drivers, Francis A.Robinson (19), and George Hilton (18), who just tipped the dock rail were charged with being drunk and disorderly at Conisborough on Saturday.

Hilton pleaded guilty, but Robinson said: “I was not right from; I was taking him (Hilton) home. I had only 2 pints of shandy.

A police officer was in Station Road at 10:45 p.m. on Saturday when he saw the two boys, were very drunk, staggering about the road. He refused to give their names and addresses, but eventually gave two which were wrong.

Hilton was fined 1/– and/– costs, and Robinson 2/6 and the costs.

Robinson: Is that 6/6 altogether sir?

The Chairman: Yes.

Mr Watson said he hoped the defendants would take this as a warning. I don’t want to see young lads like you brought before us. I think you ought to be ashamed of yourselves, at your age.
