Schools Summer Fayre
Last Night’s Gaiety at Conisbrough
Conisbrough Station Road schools held their annual summer fayre in the school playground last night. The fayre was opened by Mrs E. Westlake, senior Mistress at Conisbrough Northcliffe girls school. Most popular sideshow among the children was a bran tub, as was made known by the fact that a terrific noise was created by whistles which the children got from on the tubs.
After the opening ceremony children paraded for a fancy dress competition judged by Mrs A. Oldfield, Mrs A. Stimson and Coun. D. Sheldon. Winners were: juniors (9 to 11 years) Kathleen Alcock, Richard Kendall; juniors (7 to 9 years): Susan Guscott, Paul Wynn: infants; Linda Smith, Peter Guscott; special prize: Rene Farmer and Yvonne Bond.
Stallholders were: Produce Stall, Mesdames E. Pickett and Anne Robinson; cake in one stall: Mrs A. Thompson and Mr A. Dufton; #bran tubs. Alcock and Mrs. R. E. Kendall; hidden treasure: Mrs J. Tillotson, T. Skelton, Mrs Jones; darts: Mrs J. Woods and Mrs V. Smith; ring board: Mrs J. Smethurst; ball in the bucket: Mrs C. Martin; bean bag filling: Mrs N Taylor and Mr Hoyle; nine pins Mrs A. Smith; Guessing weight of cake: Mrs Anthony: Sweets in bottle Mrs Greenfield; hoopla: Mrs M. Shacklock; fishing: Mrs M. Field send and Mrs Andrews.
Refreshments were served by Mesdames F. Ledger, G. Webster, Brown, Mason, Hirst, the infants department staff, and ice cream and crisps were sold by Mesdames M. Begin, A. Burdette, A. Tyas and W. Webb.
