Stole The Insurance Money.

George William Hellewell, late Denaby was charged at the Doncaster West Riding Court yesterday with stealing £9 19s. 6d., the money of his uncle, George Hellewell, retired railway servant.

Prosecutor formerly resided at Denaby, but now lives at Sheffield. A cheque for £10 being the insurance on his late wife, was sent to him, and his daughter gave it with a request- that he would cash it the Sheffield Banking Company’s bank at Mexborough. Prisoner cashed it, receiving £10, less 6d. commission.

He was received into custody at Barnsley by Police-constable Rutter, and when charged told him had spent the money in horse racing.

He now expressed his regret, and told the Bench he had been drinking and got into had company.

He was committed to prison for three months with hard labour.
