Suggested Night League for Mexborough

About 200 people were present at the annual dinner of the Denaby and Cadeby Cricket Club, held in the Welfare Institute on Saturday night, and presided over by Mr. H. C. Harrison, general manager of the collieries.

The club had a successful season, reaching the semi-final of the Yorkshire Council. They had an average score per wicket of 25.2, against their opponents’ 14.8.

In proposing the toast “The Visitors,” Mr. A. Roberts, J.P., C.C., stated that a full time coach had been engaged, and that special attention was to be paid to developing junior talent.

In response, Councillor C. Ward, of Swinton, suggested running an evening cricket league for local teams, and Mr. H. Hulley, manager of Cadeby Colliery, assured him that Denaby and Cadeby would support the project wholeheartedly.

The Doncaster League Bowling Cup, won for three successive years by the bowls section, was handed to the winners.

Individual prizes for batting and bowling were presented to I. Greenwood, average 42.2, aggregate 844 runs; E. Wainwright, average 44.12, aggregate 353, and G. T. Worthington, who took 60 wickets for 598 runs, average 9.96; this being in Yorkshire Council cricket.
