Supper at Conisborough
Mr George Appleyard, of Church-street, Conisborough, having completed the extensive alterations of his premises, all the workpeople connected therewith to the number of about 40 were entertained to supper on Monday evening.
Amongst those present were the Rev. W.C. Williams. Mr. Henry Earnshaw, Mr. John Twibey (the builder), and Air. Isaac Shaw. A very enjoyable social evening was afterwards spent.
The Rev. W. C. Williams, in an able little speech, referred to the character and efficiency of the work.
Mr. Appleyard remarked how grateful he was to be surrounded by some with whom he had been associated for many years, and feelingly referred to Mr. Isaac Shaw, who had been in the employ of the family for 35 years. He was sure the new premises would supply a long felt want. The building which is three story high is an excellent structure, and has been built by Mr. John Twibey, of Conisborough. Mr. Appleyard, of course, was responsible for the joinery work.
It may be stated that one room is to be utilised for the storage of earthenware, Chinaware, tinware, wringing machines, etc. The shop, which is 60 feet long, is stocked with drapery and fancy goods and the second floor with furniture, oilcloth and carpets. The third or uppermost story will be used for all kinds of furniture.
The older part of the building will henceforth be known as the flock, feather, and paperhanging department. In the way of improvements a steam engine has been added this year for sawing and turning purposes. In fact all the latest improvements have been carefully considered and the building will be found to be all that could be desired.
