Supporters Club AGM – United’s Fateful Year

August 1964

South Yorkshire Times, August 1.

United’s Fateful Year.

Miners of Denaby and Cadeby Main Collieries, who have agreed to have three pence per week stopped from their wages to help Denaby United, were thanked at the Supporters Club annual meeting last Wednesday.

The chairman, Mr G McNicol, said that very many thanks were due to the miners.

“By agreeing to this small stoppage these men are helping a struggling club to find its feet again,” he added, “As far as Denaby United are concerned this is the season which will count. It will decide whether or not the club will survive in coming seasons.”

Mr McNicol, commenting on the notable absence of spectators during last season, said, “During last season attendances were very low. However, the only remedy for this is the presence of a good team and we should all pull together and give us help and support to our new manager, Mr Sam Duffty, who is endeavouring to get together a team which will bring supporters back to Tickhill Square.”

Mr Jim Richards, president of the Football Club, thanked the supporters club for all their help during seasons past and endorsed the view that both the club and its supporters should pull together to get the club back on its feet.

“I would like to you all to know just how thankful the club is for the support of the supporters club through the season,” he said, “Let us all pull together during the coming season and  give our support to the club and its new manager, who is faced with a difficult job, but who, I am sure, is doing a lot of hard work.

The new president of the supporters club is Mr F Clough. He replaces councillor J Taylor, who members agree, should be thankful it’s fine service to the club in the past season. Members also agree that a vote of thanks to be given to Mr Arthur Roberts, former Football Club secretary this.
