The Wath club and team have my hearty congratulations upon their splendid and decisive victory on Saturday over their near rivals of Mexborough. Last season the Wath team beat the Mexborough men on the Mexborough ground and on Saturday the Mexborough chaps were looking for their revenge. But they got none of it and well well beaten by four wickets.
It was most unfortunate Mexborough had to take the field without their crack bowler, who had contracted a mild attack of influenza. Without in any way disparaging the wok as a victory of the Wath team, I cannot help but think that the game would have gone the other way had Brown been in the Mexborough team. The 98 runs compiled by the Mexborough team was a respectable total.
W P Turner (20), C O Pepper (16), W Bennett (16) and HE Bennett (17 not out) were the chief contributed to the Mexborough total..
The Wath men, however, made light of the task which was set them and scored 99 runs in an hour and a half. The sole outstanding feature of the match was the way in which Jack Ellis simply “went for” the Mexborough bowling – simply slaughtering it – and scoring 53 runs in less than as many minutes. He won the game handsomely for his side. It was a pleasant match, contested with the best of feeling, Mexborough, although rather disappointed, took their defeat in a sportsmanlike fashion.
Swinton 79 for 9 Conisborough 77
The winners in the match at Swinton was the home team, and they can congratulate themselves on securing their first two point in the League against a bowler like G Hardy, of the Conisborough club, who was in a destructive mood. Hardy took seven of the Swinton wickets for 10 runs, but despite this Swinton one with a very respectable score of 79 for 9 wickets, as against 77 all out compiled by Conisbrough. GP Shaw again batted well, scoring 19 and Feirn, who has very few big scores to his credit, contribute a like number not out. Together with A Whittington, Feirn raises go from 38 to 75 for the ninth wicket, and the Conisbrough total was passed amidst great excitement. The Swinton spectators are not always as numerous as the committee would like, but on occasion they can be very enthusiastic, as was the case on Saturday

Played at Shaw Lane, Barnsley, on Saturday before a small attendant. Barnsley lacked the service of Albert Wilkinson, absent owing to a family bereavement.
The visitors were not long in making the issue clear. Mitchell Main won the match and Turner was caught and bowled at the end of what under other circumstances would have been the last over of the game.
