TV All Stars XI coming to Denaby
Yet another All Star Football match is to come to the Mexborough area and this year the proceeds being for the Musicians Benevolent Fund.
A T.V. newsreader David Hamilton is the organiser of the match, which is to be held on Denaby United ground on Sunday, November 17th at 2:30 PM
Some of the stars who will probably be appearing are Ronnie Hilton, Karl Denver, the Mudlark brothers, Bill Grundy, members of the Coronation Street cast, Don Arrol, Mike and Bernie Winters, Jewel and Warris, Freddie Trueman, Brian London and Trevor Ford, the ex-Welsh international footballer.
The Musicians Union team will be made up of ex league players, including Danny Williams, Rotherham United manager, Billy Barker and Bill James, both on the training staff of Rotherham United, Eddie Lockwood an ex-player, Jack Williams ex-Leeds, Harold Moresby,ex Rotherham, Billy Thompson, the ex-lightweight champion boxer Britain, Brian O’Malley MP and Geoff Evans, secretary of Mexborough branch of the musicians union and an ex-Chesterfield player
To Help Widow
Some of the proceeds will go to the widow of a Goldthorpe member of the Mexborough branch of the musicians union, who died recently. There have also been concerts held in the area to raise funds for the widow, and it is very popular.
Mr J Evans, who leads a band at the Brooklyn club, Maltby, said this week, “All the players are giving their services, and Denaby United have kindly allowed us to use their ground without fees.”
