Taking Matches into Denaby Pit

James Sudbury, miner, employed at the Denaby Main Colliery was charged with infringing special rule 99 of the Regulation of Mines Act by taking matches into the Denaby Main Colliery on December 31st.

He pleaded guilty, but said he did not know be had them in his pocket.

Mr. Hickmott who prosecuted on behalf of the company, said he did not desire to press the charge against the defendant, as he did not believe he wilfully infringed the Act.

Fined 10s. and costs.
