Mexborough and Swinton Times May 30, 1902
There is an outbreak of the old trouble among some of the miners at the Denaby pit.
I refer to the Bag Dirt bother that has caused such a lot of uneasiness amongst the men. This trouble only effects about 250 men on one side of the pit, and these men have decided to take a ballot to settle whether or not they should tender their notices to cease work until their wishes are gratified.
The result of the ballot is not to hand as I write, but will no doubt be published in the “Times” this week. It’s a great pity the matter cannot be settled without the requirement of a ballot, which I look upon as an indication of trouble ahead.
