The Grave Complaint.
From facts which have during the week come under our notice, we are this week enabled to give a complete denial to the charge made in our last issue by a Denaby miner named Fretwell, concerning the interment of his child.
Instead of the officiating minister being to blame, we learn that the whole onus rests on the parents, who failed to give proper notice of burial, their instructions not having been given to the sexton until 11 a.m. on Wednesday, the morning of the interment.
Notwithstanding the short notice given, we learn that every effort to oblige the parties was made, and it was in consequence of the officiating minister (who came from Doncaster at great inconvenience, Mr. Wood, the vicar, being from home) having other duties which necessitated his return by an early train, that the burial service was not read in church as complained of, although all was done in accordance with the rules laid down in the Prayer-book.
We trust that the next time Fretwell makes a public complaint he will take care to send one that will bear substantiation.
