The Living of Conisborough

The living of Conisborough has been offered by his Grace the Archbishop of York to the Reverend W.H.S. Bateman, rector of holy Trinity York, who, we are officially informed has declined the same.

This is the second time the living has been refused.

Notes:

The vicariat seems to be going a-begging. It is certainly not a “fat” living. Many a nonconformist minister receives a much better income than the vicar of Conisborough can expect to obtain. Of course that is the “filthy lucre” side of the question.

If a clergyman feels he has received the “call” to this historic land of Ivanhoe that will be a very different matter!
