Constable Stern Chase

A constable 3 ½ miles chase after a motorcyclist failed to stop at his request at Conisbrough, was described to be the magistrates at Doncaster West Riding With Court on Tuesday, when George Dawson, unemployed, Sheffield was summoned for failing to obey a constable’s signal, and driving a motorcycle combination without lights.

It was stated by PC Thompson that at 11:20 p.m. he saw defendant driving towards him on the Sheffield Road, Conisbrough, without lights. He signalled him to stop, but he immediately accelerated and witness had to jump out of the way or he would have been knocked down.

Witness stopped a passing motorist, gave chase, and caught defendants 3 ½ miles further along the road. He did not have either front or rear lights.

Defendant was fined 40 s. for failing to stop and 24 s. for the other offences
