The Mines Act

Matches in the Pit

Fred Burgin, a miner, was summoned by the Denaby and Cadeby Main Colliery for a breach of the Mines Act on Feb. 29th.

Mr. Frank Allen prosecuted on behalf of the company, and said that when searched the defendant was found with a box of matches in his possession. It was a very dangerous practice, and one which caused the company considerable trouble.

The defendant pleaded guilty and was fined 20s. and costs.
