The New Name
In these notes last week we referred to the old Church of St. Chad which was the first Church of England in Denaby Main and was demolished over 30 years ago, when the old church hall was built.
We recalled that later the Blythe Street Mission was renamed to perpetuate the name of St. Chad but some time ago that building was sold. Reference was made that the new Church Hall which has just been completed and which will be officially opened on June 6th by Mrs. Taylor, wife of the Bishop of Sheffield, might perhaps take the name to serve as a constant reminder of the first church of Denaby.
It is pleasing to note that a letter to members of the Mothers’ Union, sent out this week, refers to an event arranged for May 27th to be held in the new hall – “St. Chad’s Hall, as we shall be calling it”.
So now we know, and this will delight many older church members.
