The Old Trouble.
Dark nights are here again and the question again arises, ‘When will some action be taken to give some light and a firm footing to the passage way between Wheatley Street and Tickhill Square leading into Hickleton Street by the Co-operative Stores branch shop?’
This road is regularly used by people from the Fullerton Hospital and Tickhill Square and by workmen from the Conisborough housing estates who work at the local collieries.
Attention has often been drawn to this road over the past two or three years and our Denaby correspondent writes, ‘I have again been asked to make reference to this matter.
When the village was gas lit, a street lamp was placed at the end of 12, Tickhill Square and this gave light up the passage way, while the light at the store lit the other end. When electric lights were introduced, the standard was fixed about opposite to No. 8, Wheatley Street and thus took away the light from the Square leading to the hospital. Had the electric light standard been placed at the beginning of Wheatley Street it would have given light to both.
Perhaps some of our local counsellors could help?
