A contemporary refers to the recent episode Conisborough as follows: –
“Ex-policeman Bonnett, of Conisborough, seems chary of performing his duties of old.
After he took up his residence at the burgh of the hill, he lost his heart. From ‘information received’, he ultimately got to know the lady who found it.
According to precedent, and to all rules of justice, he should have taken her in charge. But, like other policemen, when his services were wanted ex-policeman Bonnett was not to be found.
Through a voyage of discovery, the ‘man wanted’ was detected busy working in the field. Just as he was, he repaired to the church, and clergyman (who had left from being tired of waiting) were re summoned into the sanctuary.
Then ex-policeman Bonnett accomplished his mission by ‘taking into custody’ the offending young lady.
Let us hope that the bonds of matrimony may prove the cords of love.
