Thurnscoe was literally deserted on Wednesday on the occasion of King’s visit to Hickleton and Goldthorpe.
The teaching staff of the Council School, under the direction of Miss Fielding, headmistress and Mr G Levitt, headmaster, had made preparation for giving every facility to their scholars of seeing their Majesties, and had them carefully arranged by the side of the highway leading from Hickleton Hall to Goldthorpe.
Here the children got a splendid view of the King and Queen, and at the approach of the Royal car cheered in quite a Yorkshire fashion.
The national anthem was also sung by the scholars
