Theft from Denaby Colliery

Edward Brown, aged 14, and employed as a lamp carrier, was charged at Doncaster West Riding Court yesterday with stealing 11s. 3d. belonging to the Denaby and Cadeby Colliery Co.

The boy went to the colliery offices to draw his brother’s money, and seeing a tin containing 11s. 3d., wages for one of the employees, he took it, but his mother, who said he had no father, told the Bench she immediately returned it.

Superintendent Hicks said the boy had a bad record for a small boy, having three convictions against him for larceny.

He was ordered be placed under the probation officer.
