Theft of Coal

Three Denaby miners, John Burns, Matthew Noble and Arthur Duke, were fined at Doncaster on Tuesday when they appeared charged with having stolen coal, the property of the Denaby and Cadeby Colliery Co., valued at 1s. 8d.

Inspector Redfern said the three men were seen by two hidden officers to take 220 lbs. of coal from a wagon at the L.N.E.R. sidings at Conisborough on October 15th.

Burns had live previous convictions, the last being in when he was fined £2 5s. for stealing a crate of crockery and £2 for stealing a dentist’s drill.

Burns was fined £2 and the other defendants £1 each
