Sheffield Daily Telegraph – Monday 26 October 1903

Thornhill  3  Denaby United  1

These teams opened in Thornhill before 1,500 spectators. The opening minutes’ play was in the home team’s favour, and, shortly afterwards, Bryant scored.

Gives followed, but an attack by the visitors saw the ball being forced past Fisher. On the interval Saul regained the lead for Thornhill.

On resuming Denaby attacked warmly, but found the defence stubborn, and several fruitless corners followed. Then Thornhill scored a third goal, and McDonald, in turn, added another.

The game was interesting, Thornhill right wing doing good work, and keeping the Denaby defence busy.

Result: Thornhill United, 3 goals; Denaby United, 1 goal.
