Threatening To Shoot a Police-Sergeant at Maltby.

On Monday, at the Rotherham Police Court, Nat Shreeves, of Denaby, was charged with assaulting Police-constable Sykes, at Maltby.

About three o’clock on the morning of Sunday, the 9th inst., the complainant and Police-constable Redfern were on duty on the road leading from Maltby to Conisborough, when they saw the prisoner and two other men. The prisoner was carrying a gun, and they heard him fire it. They then followed the prisoner and his comrades, and when they got up to them they charged them with rabbit shooting.

The prisoner told Police-sergeant Sykes to stand back or he would put the contents of the gun through him. The prisoner subsequently struck him on the cap with the gun, and repeated his threat to shoot the sergeant if he did not stand back. He also threatened to shoot Police-constable Redfern.

Mr. F. Parker-Rhodes appeared for the prisoner, and contended that he did not intend to do the sergeant any harm.

Fined £5 and costs.
