Threats of “Murder and Sudden Death” at Denaby.

William Hall, miner, of Denaby, was charged with using threats against Ella Gough, married, also of Denaby on July 22nd

Defendant pleaded not guilty.

Complainant (who answered to a similar charge the week before) stated that on the 22nd she was accosted by the defendant, who there and then threatened to “pull her heart out” she therefore claimed the protection of the law.

Defendant: When was it?

Complainant: 8 o’clock.

Defendant: I was in bed then

In support of his statement defendant proceeded to call his wife, Mrs. Hall, who swore that on the day in question the defendant came home from Rotherham in her company, and on reaching home went to bed. It was then about a 5:45 o’clock. As for the allegation that the time of the alleged threats the defendant was worse for drink, that was untrue, as he had never been the worst for beer in his life.

Defendant was bound over in the sum of £5 to keep the peace for six months
