Denaby Youths Dangerous Practice

Charles Blakemore (14), glasshand, Denaby and Stanley Clarke (14), glasshand, Denaby, were summoned by the Denaby and Cadeby Colliery company for having done damage to windows, the property of the colliery company on 15 July.

They pleaded not guilty.

It was stated that at 4:10 AM on Thursday, the 50, a policeman on duty near the G.C. Railway saw the defendant emerge from the tunnel and walk in the direction of the glassworks. Defendants were kept under observation practically the whole of the length of the village, during which time there were throwing stones at the G.C.R.Telegraph insulators and the telegraph posts. One of the stones went through one of the colliery company’s windows.

The defendant’s ran up a back street, and PC Franklin followed and charged them with breaking the window.

Blakemore replied, “Don’t summons us, and I won’t throw any more.”

The defendants were fined 6 shillings each, including the damage, which was assessed at 3 shillings in each case.
