To play for Cardiff.
Denaby United reserve goalkeeper, 19 years old Mick Wiles of 34. Hartly Street Mexborough, is to play as an amateur for Cardiff City. Mick a student teacher at Denaby, will be going to Lampeter University, in Wales, later this year, and after writing to Cardiff manager George Swindin, he was offered a place as an amateur on his past record.
“I don’t take football all that seriously to want to become a professional,” he said this week. “It was just that I like football and wanted to play for someone while I am away. I’m very glad that I’ve been accepted by Cardiff.”
A former pupil of Sheffield’s De La Salle grammar school, he played as an amateur for Sheffield United while at school.
Before going to Bramall Lane, he played with Mexborough club High Terrace, when they won the Mexborough league and the Top Four play-off.
He has also played as an amateur with Notts County and is out to get their consent to be able to play for Denaby this season.
He has now obtained his release and has been invited to practice matches at Cardiff before he goes to University in October
