Tom Hill Old Boys Receive Trophy

John Farmer, captain of Denaby Tom Hill Old Boys’ F.C., winners of the Doncaster Senior Reserves Leaguw, shows the trophy to his team at the Club Dinner

There was plenty to celebrate when Tom Hill Old Boys Football Club held their annual dinner and dance at Denaby Main Miners Welfare Hall on Friday.

For the first time since the event took its place in the club’s calendar, four years ago, a trophy was presented before the guests, which this year numbered over 120.

Mr Ian Richardson, chairman of the Doncaster F.A.and a former local referee, handed over the hard-won Doncaster Reserve The Trophy, with the comment that he thought it was perhaps the hardest to win of all the local awards. Reserve League sides often contained a good many first-team players.

Mistresses and horse commented that the Denaby-based club had been unlucky in failing to carry off the double – the Reserve Section and First Division trophies. In fact, Tom Hill finished fourth in the Premier Division.

Like his fellow guest, Mr R Bowling, the Doncaster League treasurer, Mr Richardson emphasised how glad he was to be present.

Disappointed at missing these extra special festivities was Mr R.H.Miller, chairman of the Miners Welfare Trustees. He should have made the presentation but was taken ill at the last moment.

A vote of thanks to the guest was proposed by Mr Eric Taylor, chairman of the Old Boys.

Genuine Team Effort

commenting on the team’s performance during the season, the Tom Hill, secretary, Mr Thomas Sapey, told guests of the high standard of football attained during the year. It had been a genuine team effort, he said.

Dancing until midnight followed an excellent dinner.

On Monday Mr Sapey told the South Yorkshire Times. That was such a successful season behind the club, he would like. At this stage to express his thanks to the first and second team trainers, “Tich” Brett and Kenny Webb, for their loyal efforts. He likewise give special mention to the treasure, I would stop well, and had two players, Terry Hagan (right-back) and Peter Dyson (left-wing). Mr Sapey said they had been active members of the Old Boys since the club’s formation.

Transport Help

Thanks too work expressed to Conisbrough coach proprietor Mr E.H.Whitehead who had been responsible for transporting the team to all their away matches. Without his contribution Tom Hill really would have got nowhere!
