Too Much Smoke
A Conisboro’ haulage contractor, named Richard H. Hartley, was ordered to pay 5s. and costs for allowing his locomotive to emit dense volumes of black smoke.
Mr. Barnell watched the engine from Bawtry Church to Bawtry Bridge. It was emitting dense volumes of smoke, and had caused numerous complaints from residents.
The defendant said the engine was constructed upon up-to-date lines.
