Tore Hair From Neighbours Head.
Conisbrough Woman’s “Vicious Attack”
A 32 year old Conisbrough housewife showed magistrates at Doncaster West Riding Court this on Friday a handful of hair she alleged had been torn from her head by her neighbour.
A neighbour, Mrs Violet Doreen Gray (35), of Thirwall Avenue, Conisbrough, denied that she had assaulted the woman, Mrs Doris Salmons. She was found guilty and fined £5, and bound over in the sum of £5 to keep the peace for 12 months.
A cross summons by Gray was dismissed.
Mrs Salmons told the magistrates that her husband and Mr Gray were arguing. She went out to see what was the matter and Mrs Gray charged up to her and got hold of her hair, and pulled her to the ground.
Mrs Salmons said “She dragged me down by the hair of my head. It was painful. I daren’t look up. “I pushed her into the privet hedge and held her by the waist. I told her to leave go. She was kicking me.”
Another neighbour. Mrs Laura Chandler said that she saw Mr Gray and Mr Salmons arguing. Mrs Gray was stood at her gate. The two men were shouting. “Mrs Salmons went towards them and Mrs Gray ran from her gate at Mrs Salmons and got hold of her hair. She pulled her downwards,” said Mrs Chandler.
Mr Roy Salmons said that he was standing with his wife when Mrs Gray came up to her and pulled her down by the hair. “There was a bare patch on my wife’s head afterwards” he said.
In the witness box Mrs Gray said that her husband have been on night shifts during the week the alleged assault took place.
“I went outside to ask them to be quiet” said Mrs Gray, and Mr Salmons, she alleged, said to her: “We’ll have to walk about in our bare feet soon.”
The husband, said Mrs Gray, got up out of bed and came down and told Mr Gray to “pack it up.” “Salmons grabbed my hair, and I grabbed hers and we slipped into the hedge” Mrs Gray added.
The chairman, Mr Ben Roberts, told Gray “we will not tolerate this behaviour. It was a vicious attack.”
