Satisfactory Position of the New Scheme
Denaby two Rotherham Route
Early Construction Certain

Rumours relating to the Mexborough, Swinton and Rawmarsh Electric Tramway Scheme have during the past three years been even more numerous and conflicting than the rumours of the last three months regarding the Russian fleet.

All the world, however, knows now the end to which the Russian Armada has come – Room, lying jade, can lie no more about it – and we are this week in a position to give the little local well which is interesting, exclusive and official news of the exact position of the new Tramway scheme. It is news which will be received by the advocates of the scheme was the greatest satisfaction, and will possibly be accepted by Councillor Sopps with mingled resignation and chagrin.

We are authorised to state that the National Electric Construction Company, Ltd., have completed a contract with Mr. Godfrey Isaacs, who represented the vendor’s, by virtuo of which the company take over the whole scheme, inclusive of their concessions obtained from the local authorities of Mexboro, Swinton and Rawmarsh.

The finances are all arranged, the capital having already been subscribed and directly the Royal assent to the Amending Order has been obtained the work of construction will be started. The Act which originated in the House of Lords passed through both houses of Parliament without opposition, and was recently read in the Commons for the third time. The Royal accent is therefore only a formality, which will be completed by the next commission appointed to convey the Royal assent, through the house of lords, to the public and private bills passed during the present session of Parliament.

As our readers are aware, the original Mexborough and Swinton Tramways Act provided for her continuous system of electric tramway traction from the Denaby boundary of Mexborough, through Swinton, to the Rotherham boundary of Rawmarsh, completing the chain of Tramway service between Sheffield and Denaby, with a branch from the junction of High Street, Mexborough, with Swinton Road, to the Wath boundary of the Swinton Urban District, adjacent to Manvers Main Colliery.

The company which obtained the original concessions from the promoter of the scheme, Mr Binns, failed to carry out the construction within the time fixed by the act and ultimately disposed of their interest in the concessions to Mr. Godfrey Isaacs, who is the brother of the well-known advocate, Mr Rufus Isaacs, K. C., M. B. He formed a syndicate which promoted a bill amending the original Act, principally with regard to the time limit, which has been extended by two years, and the passage of the Bill to allow Parliament been assured, had disposed of their powers to the National Electric Construction Co., Ltd., who as we have already stated, only await the formal legal confirmation of the amended scheme before getting to work.

At the most it can only be a matter of weeks before that confirmation is made – it may take place before the adjournment of Parliament for the Whitsuntide vacation, – and the coming summer is certain to witness the inauguration of the undertaking. We anticipate being able to announce to our readers in the come of time, the time and.
