Troublesome Customers at Denaby Public House
Isaac Rowland, William Davies, and Joseph Shepherd, all of Denaby, were charged by John Slater, landlord of the Reasby Arms, Denaby, with being disorderly and refusing to quit the house on the 11th inst. Mr. F. Parker-Rhodes prosecuted.
The defendants did not appear, and after the services of the summonses had been proved, Mr. Rhodes said that the complainant had a great deal of trouble to keep his house in an orderly manner.
John Slater said that on the day in question Rowland and Shepherd were in the vault at his house. They used filthy language, and he ordered them to leave the house. They went into the tap room. He followed them and again ordered them to leave, but they refused to go. He told his man not to fill them any drink, and sent for a policeman. It was some time before the officer arrived, and during the interval he found that William Davies had got some beer and given it to the other men. In consequence of that, he ordered Davies to leave the house, but he refused to go, and threatened to kick the waiter’s ribs in.
Rowland and Shepherd were each fined 7s. 6d. and costs, or 14 days’ imprisonment. Davies was fined 5s. and costs, or 14 days. On the application of Mr. Rhodes, the Bench allowed 10s. for witnesses.
