Twelve Years Matrimonial Unhappiness at Denaby.

A Denaby miner, named John Hawley was summoned by Margaret Hawley, his wife, for assaulting her on the 7th inst.

Defendant did not appear.

Complainant said on Monday afternoon last between two and 3 o’clock, she was in the house when defendant bumped her on the head several times, knocking her on the floor.

Defendant had ill treated her ever since they had been married, which was 12 years ago, and she had summoned him twice, but on promising to do better she had withdrawn them. He was better for a few weeks, but he started again.

Mary Duffey said on the day in question she heard screaming from the house, and went and saw the defendant ill treating his wife.

The chairman said the defendant would have to pay the costs, and appear the following Saturday to be bound over to keep the peace.
