Two Remanded.
Noticing that a pane of glass had been removed from a window at Denaby Main Miners’ Welfare canteen, a police constable went inside and found two youths hiding under a table, it was alleged at Doncaster West Riding Court on Wednesday.
William Henry Cole (17), labourer, Cadeby Avenue. Conanby, and Alan Rhodes (17) apprentice mechanic of St. Andrews Road Conisbrough, were remanded until next Tuesday after saying they did not want to be granted bail.
They were jointly charged with breaking and entering the canteen,with intent to steal and with being found at night in possession of housebreaking implements.
Chief Insp. Schofield alleged that Cole had a hacksaw in his possession and Rhodes a pair of pliers and a sheath knife. He alleged that Coles said: “I brought it because we were going to do a job,” and Rhodes: “I thought it might come in handy. I used the knife on the window.”
The Insp. said the police were to make further inquiries,
