Unusual Effort at Denaby Vicarage
Steps Covered with Silver

When the Vicar of Denaby, The Rev, F. Herrington, invited his parishioners to “build a silver staircase” in the Vicarage last Thursday evening, £15 10s. was raised for church funds.

The Vicar invited people to call at the Vicarage for light refreshments served by him and his mother. In return he asked them to leave a silver coin on the steps of his front staircase. The staircase has about 25 steps and between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. people came in and out all the time, only two steps were covered, but this was enough to raise the £15 10s.

Mr. Herrington commented. “It’s surprising how much will go on two steps.”

For each step covered an anonymous friend offered a gift of five shillings.
