Three Cornered Fight
Interest in the East Ward fight of the coming Urban Council election quickens, and the entry of two further carriers this week brought a three-cornered fight.
Last week the Labour Are to reveal the candid as Mr J Wright, unsuccessful candidate in the same Ward last year.
On Tuesday Mr P McDonald (picture), 48, Tickhill Street Denaby announced his candidature and yes to Mr HS Peet, 14 New Hill, Conisbrough, entered the field as a Ratepayers candidate.
Mr McDonald (50), a native of Denaby, unsuccessfully opposed Coun. G. Cheshire, J.P., as an Independent Labour candidate in the North Ward last year. A former miner at Denaby Main Colliery, Mr McDonald has for some years been, an insurance agent with the Liverpool Victoria Friendly Society, and during the last 10 years has carried out various duties, including those of chairman, treasurer and delegate, in the Liverpool Victoria Workers’ Union.
Mr McDonald, formerly in business in Denaby with his father and brothers as a haulage contractor volunteered for World War I service at 18, and after two years in hospital was discharged on full Pension. He is still on the Disable Persons’ Register.
