Urban Powers?

New Tactics in Old Controversy at Conisbro’

A petition, extensively signed at Conisbro’ and Denaby against the granting of urban powers to the district, was forwarded recently to the Minister of Health.

As the promoters of the urban powers scheme believe that the argument of a big jump in rates was used to induce ratepayers to sign the petition, a public challenge has been issued.

Placards have been posted in Conisbro’ and Denaby, signed by the three Labour members who sit on Doncaster Rural Council, challenging anyone prove in public debate that the rates would be sent up, and offering to resign their seats on the Rural Council and fight fresh election solely on the question of urban powers—a question that has caused agitation for over years.
