Mexborough & Swinton Times – Friday 19 January 1894
Tuesday next is an important day in the musical history of Denaby Main.
It is, I believe, the first time a singer of such high standing as Miss Fannie Sellers has appeared in the mining village.
Besides ballads, this lady has a repertoire including other standard works, in which she has appeared, and her contributions to the programme at Denaby cannot fail to be appreciated by the villagers. In fact, the whole programme has been carefully chosen with a view to please, and yet educate musically.
Not the least enjoyable will be the part song by Mr. Nixon’s choir (of 30 voices), and l am informed by one who had the pleasure of hearing them on Sunday in the Central Hall of the new schools that their singing was a rich treat.
It it to be hoped that this effort to elevate the taste, and at the same time raise funds for the organ, will meet with abundant success.
