Visitors at Cadeby Colliery
On Saturday the Educational Department of the Doncaster Co-operative Society, by the kind permission of Mr. W. H. Chambers, had an excursion to the new coal pit at Cadeby, when Mr. Witty, under-viewer, kindly showed them all the different appliances for getting the coal to the surface, and also the large electric light room with the massive fly-wheels.
Afterwards sixteen of the party, four being ladies, entered the cage, and were swiftly landed at the bottom of the pit, a depth of 750 yards, where each of the party handled the pick in a workmanlike fashion, got a small piece of coal and brought the same to the surface with them as a memento of their visit to Cadeby.
A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Messrs. Chambers and Witty for their kindness.
