Wages At Denaby Main
A letter was published on Saturday from Mr. J. Buckingham Pope, chairman of the Denaby Main Collieries, offering to submit the books of the company to any duly authorised accountant nominated by the Press.
The challenge was accepted, and on Saturday Mr. Burbidge of the firm of Knox, Burbidge, and Co., chartered accountants, Sheffield and London, visited the collieries, and on Tuesday night he handed in his report.
Mr. Burbidge said he examined the pay sheets for four weeks, and found that the net earnings of each collier employed by this company per shift (a shift representing a day of eight hours), had been:—

- June 7, 1893, 7s. 4.24d.
- June 14, 8s. 1.22d.
- June 21, 7s. 4.60d.
- June 28, 7s. 1.63d.
The general average for the month was 7s. 5.97d.
