War Work Case
Girl Bound Over

A Denaby girl, Mary Alice Bunter, aged 21, of 77 Loversall Street, when summoned at Doncaster on Wednesday for not taking work as directed, was told by the Clerk (Mr W E Pettifer) she could be sentenced to 3 months imprisonment, or fined £100 or both

She gave an undertaking to accept the job, and was instructed by the Bench to obtain a travelling warrant. The magistrates at the same time bound over in a sum of £20 for 12 months.

Mr W.L. Crawford, prosecuted for the Minister of Labour, said the girl was mobile, unmarried, and not in any of the Services. She had taken a course of training at Mexborough, and had undertaken to go anywhere to work.

She was offered employment as machinist last August, away from home, but refused, saying she wanted to work nearer home. It was pointed out that there was no place locally.

She was again offered the work and again refused. It was stated she had asked to be sent to Sheffield, Doncaster or Huddersfield, but the Exchange found it impossible to place her in any of those towns.

The girl, said other girls with whom she had trained had been found work nearer home. She intended getting married at Christmas to a young man employed at a pit near her home
