Water Added To Milk
Conisborough Farmer to Pay £15
John Greasby, farmer of Conisborough, was at Doncaster to-day fined £l5, including costs, for selling milk to the prejudice of customers.
It was stated that a year ago Greasby was fined £5 when a sample of his milk was found to contain 21.5 per cent, of added water.
Mr. G. Billington, prosecuting, said that on the present occasion the milk retailer went to Greasby’s farm. He was suspicious of the quality of the milk and arranged with an inspector for sample to be taken. It was found that the milk contained 6.35 per cent, of added water. An “appeal to the cow” was made and it was found that the milk was of very good quality.
Greasby told the court that he did not know how the water got into the milk, which was all right an hour before the inspector called.
