Wedding: Bryars & Sturdy

The wedding took place at Conisbrough Parish Church on Saturday of Miss Marie Bryars, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Bryars of 45, Denaby Avenue, Conanby, to Mr. John T. Sturdy, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Study of 51, Denaby Avenue Conanby.

The Vicar of Conisbrough, the Rev. G. Needham, officiated at the service, which was fully choral. Mr. Farmer was at the organ and the hymns “Lead Us, Heavenly Father “and “O Perfect Love” were sung.

The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a charming gown of white satin with silver brocade and silver shoes, with veil of orange blossom head-dress and carried a shower bouquet of red roses. She was attended by Mrs. W. Gamble, an old school friend, as matron of honour, misses Rita Bryars, Miss Greta Sturdy and her nieces Misses Jean and Diana Wallis.  The matron of honour was in wine coloured panne velvet with head-dress to tone, and Mss Bryars wore green taffeta with head-dress.  The three younger maids wore pink Crepe-de-Chine with head-dresses to tone.  All carried pink carnations.

Best man was Mr. W. Preece and groomsmen, Messrs. Bryars and K Sturdy.  A reception was afterwards held at St. Andrew’s Mission, where the bride’s mother wore a grey and white dress with navy blue accessories.  The bride grooms mother wore a fawn tweed costume with brown accessories.

The couple were the recipients of many presents, including a reading lamp from the bridegroom’s fellow workers in the Electrical Department at Cadeby Colliery, and a silver cake basket and knife from the bride’s colleagues at Bristol.
