First to greet Denaby Sailor and His Bride

A kiss for the bride, a kiss for the bridegroom, a lucky horseshoe for the bride, best wishes for both.

All very usual after a wedding, they were repeated outside Denaby Parish Church on Saturday, after the wedding of Miss Joan Chambers and Mr Ernest Turner. These greetings were different however, as they came from “Kitts.”

“Kitts” is a 12-month-old mongrel, was the 1st to greet the new Mr and Mrs Turner after the wedding.

“Kitts” was born in the “St Kitts,” the ship in which 21 year old radar operator Ernest William Turner has served during his seven years in the Royal Navy.

“Kitts” mother was a cheap six Max Scott, and now Kitts adopted and brought home to 30 Cliff View, Denaby is Ernest’s mascot.

He was not allowed inside the church when Ernest was married (during his 14 days league) to 20 year old Miss Joan Elizabeth Chambers, of 65 Balby St. Nor did you come the couple on their honeymoon to Bury on Wednesday. And while Ernest finished the remaining three years in the Navy, Kitts will be staying with his father, Mr J Turner at Cliff View.

Incompatibility note:

There is already a dog, “Roger” at Balby Street, and says Mrs M Chambers, “they don’t hit it off very well.”
