Conisbro’ Bride’s Unusual Journey

A Conishrough bride who was married on Christmas Eve, had to make the first part of her Journey to Church in a small boat. The bride was Miss Doreen Emmerson of Lock House, Conisbrough, who was ferried across th River Don by her father.

Lock House is on an island round which flows the river and the Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation canal. Miss Emmerson is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Emmerson of Lock House. She was married to Mr. Robert Hodgkiss whose brother, John was married at the same time to Miss Doreen Taylor.
