Higgins–Green

An interesting wedding was performed at the Denaby Parish Church on Tuesday by the Rev. S. Powley.

The bridegroom was Mr. Harry Higgins, second son of Mr. H. and the late Mrs. Higgins, 70, Tickhill Street, Denaby, and a lieutenant in the Church Lads’ Brigade. He and his best man, Mr. E. Sheldrake, also a lieutenant in the Brigade, wore their uniforms.

The bride was Miss Wilhemina Green, third daughter of Mrs. E. Day and the late Mr. W. Green, Cragg Villa, Denaby.

The service was choral. Mr. E. Dabbs played wedding music on the organ, and the hymn “Lead us, Heavenly Father, lead us,” was sung.

The bride wore white phantom silk trimmed with pearls, and carried pink roses. Her maids, Misses F. Green, F. McClusky, F. Dennison, N. Bowater, S. Norcliffe and K. Sheldrake, wore green sand crepe and silver shoes, and carried bronze chrysanthemums. Their gifts from the bridegroom were jade necklaces.

Allen Keys, as page, wore a green figured satin blouse and velvet trousers; and a small maid, Mabel Day, was in green figured satin.

The groomsman was Corporal W. Higgins, of the R.A.F.

A reception was held in the Church Hall. The bride’s mother was dressed in lace and georgette with brocade en suite; and the bridegroom’s grandmother, with whom he resided, wore a black silk dress with hat to match.

The bridegroom’s gift to the bride was a pearl necklace, and the bride’s to him mother-of-pearl dress studs.

The bridegroom received an oak clock from workmates in the joiners’ shop at Cadeby Colliery.

The C.L.B. are to hold a social evening later and present their gift to the bridegroom, who is also secretary of the Church Young Men’s Club, and a Server.

The couple are spending their honeymoon touring.
