Wedding – Joyner  & Pikett

The wedding took place at Denaby Parish Church on Saturday of Mr John Henry, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Pikett, 121, Tickhill Street, Denaby, and Miss Leonora Joyner, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Joyner, 7, Melton View, Denaby Main.

The service, which was choral, the hymns, “How welcome was the call” and “Lead us, Heavenly Father” being sung, was conducted by the Vicar, the Rev. S. Powley, and the organist was Mr. T. Holcroft. There was a large congregation.

The bride, who was given away by her father, wore an ankle Mexborough length dress of white satin and lace, with embroidered veil of silk net and wreath of orange blossom, the veil and wreath being lent by Mrs. Yardey, of Mexborough. She wore a string of pearls and carried a bouquet of deep pink roses, while the bridesmaids, Miss Mary Joyner and Miss Jenny Pikett, were attired in ankle-length gowns of floral silk ninon and crinoline hats, their bouquets being of cream roses.

Four small attendants, Misses Madge Pikett, May Chevens, Joyce Hibberd, and Mary Pikett, carried baskets of flowers, and two of them were dressed in pink and two in blue silk. Their headdresses were of silver leaves. The bridegroom’s gifts to the bridesmaids were crystal necklaces.

After the ceremony a reception was held in the Epworth Hall, where the bride’s mother, who had on a dress of blue figured silk with hat to match, received about 80 guests. The bridegroom’s mother wore a dress of blue figured art silk with hat to tone. Subsequently the bride and bridegroom left for Blackpool, where the honeymoon is being spent, the bride travelling in a brown costume and hat to tone.

The wedding gifts included an oak plant stand, plant pot and plant, from the members of the Church Young Men’s Club and Bible Class, and a case of silver dessert spoons and forks and server from Mr. J. Williamson, late postmaster at Denaby Main, under whom the bride was for several years employed.
